Students at Lockerbie Academy learnt about the benefits of working in manufacturing recently, when Russell Roof Tiles gave the school a special visit.
Based on Glasgow Road in Lockerbie, the academy was the first school in the county to benefit from the Russell Roof Tiles’ talk with each pupil who attended, keen to pursue a career in manufacturing.
Through a dedicated talk, presentation and videos, the students gained invaluable advice from the firm’s leading industry experts and learnt about the different career routes on offer, including accountancy, sales, admin and engineering and the benefits of pursuing a career within the industry.
Each student also had the opportunity to hear about the benefits of working with Russell Roof Tiles, from the community work which the team enjoys participating in to the excellent career progression opportunities.
Sarah McKnight, a Teacher at Lockerbie Academy said: “The visit was absolutely fantastic. The pupils got an insight into the work carried out by Russell Roof Tiles as well as the investment the company makes into its employees. All the pupils were really positive about the experience.”
The school visits are part of a wider initiative by Russell Roof Tiles to promote manufacturing roles as a viable career option with apprenticeships, an annual bursary and recruitment open days already being offered by the firm. Last year, Russell Roof Tiles also opened a training centre to help build skills and nurture talent.
Having launched the initiative this year, the visits are designed to encourage more young people into the industry by providing a beneficial service to the community. Russell Roof Tiles has already seen schools in both Lockerbie and Burton, where it has an additional two sites, take an interest in the school talks.
